Zhonggu Shipping Launches New Service Route at Tan Vu Port

On February 18, at Tan Vu Port Branch of Hai Phong Port JSC, Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), in cooperation with the Beibu Gulf–Guangxi Port Group of China and Zhonggu Shipping, launched a new container service connecting the Beibu Gulf, Hai Phong, and Kolkata, India.

Dignitaries attending the launch included  Tran Cuong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; He Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam; and Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, together with leaders of Zhonggu Shipping, VIMC, and relevant departments, agencies, and units.

Delegates perform the launch ceremony for the Beibu Gulf Port–Hai Phong Port–Kolkata Port service.

This is the first public container route between Beibu Gulf Port and Hai Phong Port, opening a strategic connection from Guangxi, China, through northern Vietnam to eastern India and Bangladesh.

The service will carry goods on a weekly schedule every three weeks. It will optimize logistics costs, shorten transit times, and improve the competitiveness of businesses in Vietnam, China, and India.

The launch marks a new milestone in strengthening economic, trade, and logistics cooperation between Guangxi, China, and Hai Phong.

VIMC Deputy General Director Le Quang Trung emphasized that the launch is an important milestone for the maritime sector. It expands trade links among Vietnam, China, and India, promotes regional supply-chain shifts, and creates conditions for sustainable logistics development.

Liu Thang Huu, General Director of the Beibu Gulf–Guangxi Port Group, said this is a strategic step toward promoting Vietnam–China economic and trade cooperation.

With container throughput at Beibu Gulf Port expected to exceed 10 million TEUs in 2025, the Beibu Gulf Port Group is confident in the new service’s potential. The route is expected to attract cargo from India to Hai Phong Port and Beibu Gulf Port for transshipment, creating a new trade and transport channel for the region.

The Beibu Gulf–Hai Phong–Kolkata service clearly demonstrates VIMC’s cooperation with international partners to develop strategic shipping routes. It is not only a trade bridge between regions but also a driver of sustainable growth, higher import-export turnover, and optimized supply chains among promising markets such as Vietnam, China, and India. With a long-term vision, this maritime route will become an important trade axis, strengthening the position of Hai Phong and Vietnam’s maritime sector on the regional and global logistics map.
