The project comprises berths 5 and 6 in the Lach Huyen port area, invested in by Hateco Group and trading as Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port (HHIT). Covering nearly 73 hectares, with a 900-meter main berth and a 300-meter barge berth, the port can receive two of the world’s largest container ships simultaneously and has an operating capacity of 2.2 million TEUs per year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Tho acknowledged and praised the efforts of Hateco Group, HHIT, contractors, and consultants in accelerating construction and bringing the facility into operation after 30 months of work. Once operational, Lach Huyen berths 5 and 6 will meet growing regional and international cargo-transport demand, connect Hai Phong’s port system directly with the world’s largest ports, reduce logistics costs, and contribute to state and city budgets.

The Vice Chairman added that under the planning scheme, by 2030 Lach Huyen will have 13 to 16 berths, including 14 to 18 wharves, serving cargo throughput of 61.4 to 90 million tonnes and 10,500 to 11,000 passenger movements. Hai Phong will continue accompanying Hateco Group and other investors and creating favorable conditions for them to build, operate, and exploit berths in the Lach Huyen area. The city also hopes to continue receiving support from the Government and central ministries and agencies for infrastructure investment, especially maritime and port infrastructure at Lach Huyen and Nam Do Son, in the spirit of Politburo Resolution No. 45 dated January 24, 2019 and Conclusion No. 96 dated September 30, 2024.

According to Hateco Group, HHIT has 10 STS quay cranes with a reach of 24 container rows and 36 electric e-RTG cranes, enabling fast, accurate, energy-efficient cargo handling. Its 1,350 refrigerated-container outlets are ready to meet special storage and preservation needs and ensure an uninterrupted supply chain.

At Hateco Port, technical and operational data infrastructure work in parallel to provide comprehensive real-time control, making operations fast, accurate, and transparent. The port’s Operations Center monitors and handles every situation in real time. All activities are managed by synchronized TOS software directly connected to CCTV cameras, QR controls, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and smart security alerts, ensuring every operational stage is monitored and optimized.

In particular, HHIT is the first unit in Vietnam to deploy TAS (Truck Appointment System), a container-truck booking platform that helps drivers manage port entry and exit times, save time, and improve operating experience.

Hateco Group signs a memorandum of understanding with APM Terminals to establish a strategic partnership in Vietnam’s port and logistics sector.

At the inauguration, Hateco Group signed a memorandum of understanding with APM Terminals to establish a strategic partnership in Vietnam’s port and logistics sector. The two sides will strengthen cooperation in two main areas. First, in port development and operation, they will jointly pursue port-infrastructure projects, including investment, design, and operational efficiency to improve Vietnam’s port capacity. Second, logistics activities will be closely linked with port operations to strengthen connections among ports, logistics centers, and domestic transport, creating seamless supply-chain solutions and leveraging synergies from existing port activities.

On this occasion, Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee, presented a city People’s Committee Certificate of Merit to HHIT for its significant contributions to Hai Phong’s socio-economic development./.
