On August 12, 2025, the Hai Phong People’s Committee held a meeting with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Korea to strengthen cooperation in science and technology, innovation and technology transfer. The meeting was part of the city’s international cooperation programme, aimed at making Hai Phong a leading science and technology centre in the region.

Hai Phong People’s Committee leaders discuss cooperation with KIST.
At the meeting, the two sides continued coordinating the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in April 2024; promoted the signing of a tripartite cooperation agreement on technology transfer among the People’s Committee, KIST and HB Advisors Group; and strengthened cooperation agreements between the Department of Science and Technology and KIST-affiliated units in key fields such as new materials, biotechnology, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, environmental treatment and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
KIST affirmed its readiness to support the development of a specialised science and technology industrial park or cluster and asked the city to introduce suitable partners. It also offered to support the establishment of a medical research centre in Hai Phong, strengthen cooperation with KIST and give priority to using personnel trained by KIST who are currently working in Vietnam.
This is an important step in expanding international cooperation, receiving advanced technologies and improving Hai Phong’s innovation capacity. With its population, economy and area expanded after the merger, together with synchronised logistics infrastructure and a high-quality workforce, Hai Phong is gradually affirming its position as an international seaport city and a strategic science and technology centre of the North.
